African Americans have a rich history in central New Jersey, although these stories have rarely been told. A new museum on preserved land in the nearby Sourland Mountains is working to change that (see Land for Life video here). Learn how our region’s natural landscape played a role in creating history – from the Delaware River as a roadway for slaves who became freed men to the African Americans who played a crucial role in the Revolutionary Crossing of the Delaware River. Join us for a short film and discussion with two founders of the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum, Elaine Buck and Beverly Mills, and Linda Mead, CEO of D&R Greenway Land Trust whose preservation work is ensuring these stories be shared with millions of people who live near the Delaware River today.
