Point Breeze Artifact Restoration
Did you know that underground discoveries were made at our preserve in Bordentown, NJ? When the Discovery Center of Point Breeze was established in 2020, many professional experts studied the Gardener’s House and surrounding land. There was an archeological dig and professional excavation on the acre of land that the D&R Greenway has turned into a beautiful visitor’s center showcasing many layers of history.
Environmental Hydrogeologist Phil Getty will share with you his authorized finds from around the grounds of the former gardener’s house on the preserved land of Point Breeze. Some interesting clues surfaced that may open new archaeological interests to study. Gary McGowan, a professional artifact restorer, will share with you the various techniques and challenges faced when trying to restore artifacts. He will have many interesting examples, some of which may be helpful for you to learn how to restore some of your precious antiques and jewelry.
Gary McGowan is President and Principal Conservator of Cultural Preservation & Restoration. He holds a Master’s of Museum Studies with a concentration in Conservation from the State University of New York. Mr. McGowan has over 30 years of experience conserving a wide variety of materials including decorative and fine arts, archaeological and ethnographic materials and historic monuments. In addition, he has experience in disaster preparedness and recovery as well as providing material testing on a wide variety of materials. Mr. McGowan has attained the distinction of Professional Associate from the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic works and is President Emeritus of the New York Regional Association of Conservation.
