New Audio Tour at Cedar Ridge Preserve

Cedar Ridge Preserve

While celebrated in popular culture, the substantial roles of women in conservation movements across the globe are not as well known. In fact, women and the results of their work have provided scientific discoveries, national parks, new ways to think about conservation, and protection of local treasures that are important to our everyday life.

The stories of 16 leading “Women in Conservation” are told in a remarkable, newly released audio tour of D&R Greenway’s Cedar Ridge Preserve in Hopewell.

The tour features international leaders such as Rachel Carson, Deb Haaland and Greta Thunburg. Also featured are local leaders including Sophie Glovier, Linda Mead, Dr. Rosemary Grant, Elaine Buck and Beverly Mills, and Hannah Suthers and Sharyn Magee. Learn more about these women here.

Secretary of Interior Deb Haaland.

The new tour began as a Girl Scout project for a young Princeton, resident, Madeleine Freundlich, who had assisted D&R Greenway as an elementary school student with messaging for the land trust’s Children’s Discovery Trail on Drakes Corner Road. Up-and-coming conservation leaders from Princeton University’s AlumniCorps Project 55, Maria Stahl and Heather Callahan, expanded and narrated the tour while serving as yearlong Fellows with D&R Greenway Land Trust.

The tour is the 200th on the TravelStorys platform, which has been used by D&R Greenway for tours of the Abbott Marshlands, St. Michaels Farm Preserve and Greenway Meadows. Nationally marketed, this new tour has already attracted more than 1,000 remote visitors from around the country!
